Song Analysis 2

Let It Die lyrics

A heart of gold But it lost it's pride Beautiful veins And bloodshot eyes I see your face In another light

Why'd you have to go And let it die Why'd you have to go And let it die Why'd you have to go And let it die In too deep And out of time Why'd you have to go And let it die

A simple man And his blushing bride (Why'd you have to go And let it die) Intravenous Intertwined (Why'd you have to go And let it die) Hearts gone cold Your hands were tied (Why'd you have to go And let it die)

Why'd you have to go And let it die (Why'd you have to go And let it die) Why'd you have to go And let it die In too deep And out of time Why'd you have to go And let it die

Do you ever think of me You're so considerate Did you ever think of me Oh so considerate

In too deep And lost in time Why'd you have to go And let it die Beautiful veins And bloodshot eyes Why'd you have to go And let it die Hearts gone cold And hands are tied Why'd you have to go And let it die Why'd you have to go And let it die

Do you ever think of me You're so considerate Did you think of me Oh so considerate

In too deep And lost in time Why'd you have to go And let it die Beautiful veins And bloodshot eyes Why'd you have to go And let it die Hearts gone cold And hands are tied Why'd you have to go And let it die Why'd you have to go And let this die Why'd you have to go And let this die Why'd you have to go And let this die Why'd you have to go And let this die Why'd you have to go And let it die

Foo Fighters “Let It Die”

The Foo Fighters is a alternative/ post grunge band that was formed by Dave Grohl in 1995. The name Foo Fighters is taken from a World War two term for unidentified flying object. The current members of the band are Dave Grohl as the lead vocals and rhythm guitar(he plays much more instruments), Nate Mendel on bass guitar, Taylor Hawkins on the drums and the back up vocals, and Chris Shiflett as the lead guitar and back up vocals. When Kurt Cobain died Nirvana ended so Grohl moved on and started his own band(Foo Fighters). He was offered to be a drummer in many bands but he decided that he could do more with music himself so he started a one man band which formed into the band today. He had written many songs while with Nirvana but kept them to himself because he always viewed Cobain as a better person when it came to music. Thus, Foo Fighters was created.
The song “Let It Die” is about how two people fall apart in a relationship. It is also about helplessness and how things in life can be thrown away. Dave Grohl has said "It's a song that's written about feeling helpless to someone else's demise. I've seen people lose it all to drugs and heartbreak and death. It's happened more than once in my life, but the one that's most noted is Kurt. And there are a lot of people that I've been angry with in my life, but the one that's most noted is Courtney. So it's pretty obvious to me that those correlations are gonna pop up every now and again." In relationships there are hard times that some people can not make it through. When those people can not it is sometimes led to heartbreak/love like in this song. In the song when it states “I see your face in another light” it is saying how I am starting to see the real you. In the song the phrase “Why'd you have to go and let it die” is repeated many times. This could be referring to Kurt Cobain and how Grohl could feel about toward what happened, and or how Nirvana died. It can also mean why did you let are relationship fall apart/ why did you not save me or us. Another part is when the song says “A simple man and his blushing bride” is meant as a happy time and a joyful time in a relationship but a few lines down it says “Hearts gone cold your hands were tied” were it changes and is illustrating how the people in the relationship do not have the same feelings as once before and they were to preoccupied to fix it. Finally when it says “Do you ever think of me” the song is showing how those people still have feelings for each other but do not really care to do anything about it because they are to heartbroken. Clearly, “Let It Die” is directed towards relationships weather it’s a boyfriend/girlfriend, friendship, or marriage.
This song is related towards my theme and genre. It is related because the whole song is about a relationship and how it was fine in the beginning but some events made it turn into a bad relationship that ended but the people in it could have old feelings for each other. It also relates to my genre because mine is alternative rock and the Foo Fighters are a alternative band. Some Poetic devices are as followed. The first one is alliteration. In the song it says “…blushing bride…” that is an example of alliteration because of the B’s. Another is the character in the song. The character in this song is the people who are going through the up and down relationship. The climax in “Let It Die” is when the paste of the song itself goes from being slow and mellow to quick and kind of aggressive. The conflict in the song is that a couple broke up and now they are both looking back on to it and seeing if what they had was good or a loss of time. Another poetic device is mood. The mood in the Foo Fighters song is the love and heartbreak in any type of relationship and the sadness that can come with it. The tone of it would be in my eyes why did the person I care for so much do this to me and what am I going to do next. Finally narrative poem is considered one also because of the relationship itself. Thus, there are a lot of poetic devices to describe what is happening in a song.
